Helping Broadcasters Stay On-Air With a New Bypass Protection Switch

By Cindy Zuelsdorf of Ensemble Designs

Ensemble Designs has introduced a new HD Bypass Protection Switch, the Avenue 7160, that protects critical transmission broadcast and transmission feeds at an affordable price. The Avenue 7160 and 27 other announcements were highlighted at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention held April 20-24, 2009 in Las Vegas.

“Broadcasters can’t afford to be off-air and this new, intelligent protection switch offers a sure-fire way to test for all kinds of meta-data and signal health,” said Cindy Zuelsdorf, Marketing Czar at Ensemble Designs. “Satellite companies use this switch as insurance. With on-air accountability so critical these days, a switch like this can really pay for itself in no time.”

The Avenue 7160 HD Bypass Protection Switch checks for closed caption data, TRS, audio, black and frozen video. Other switches in the Avenue line test for PMTs, PATS and PIDs which is useful for MPEG streams in transmission applications.

Also on display at Ensemble Designs’ NAB booth was the new Avenue HD/SD/3G electrical and optical converters, HD/SD/3G distribution amplifiers, and an HD video protection switch used for critical feeds in satellite and broadcast.

Based in Grass Valley, California, Ensemble Designs is in their 20th year of business and is a leading provider of signal processing and infrastructure products to the professional broadcast industry. Customers include RAI, CBS News, NASA, Major League Baseball, Olympic Broadcast Organisation, Sky, ESPN and TVNZ.
